Spring Opening Checklist
☐ Remove, clean, and store pool cover properly
☐ Inspect and reconnect pool equipment (pump, filter, heater, chlorinator)
☐ Remove winterizing plugs and reinsert return fittings
☐ Fill pool to proper operating level
☐ Prime and start pump—check for leaks or unusual noises
☐ Test and balance water chemistry:
• pH: 7.4–7.6
• Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
• Calcium Hardness: 200–400 ppm
• Free Chlorine: 1–3 ppm
☐ Brush walls and floor thoroughly
☐ Shock the pool and run filtration continuously for 24–48 hours
☐ Inspect safety equipment and lighting
☐ Program automation and timers as needed
☐ Schedule a professional inspection if unsure about any system
Fall/Winter Closing Checklist
☐ Test and balance water chemistry for winter levels
☐ Lower water level (typically below skimmer and returns)
☐ Clean pool thoroughly—brush, vacuum, and skim
☐ Remove and store ladders, handrails, and accessories
☐ Drain and winterize pump, filter, heater, and plumbing lines
☐ Add winterizing chemicals (algaecide, stain/scale preventer)
☐ Plug return lines and skimmer (use winterizing plugs or gizmos)
☐ Cover the pool securely—ensure anchors or straps are tight
☐ Store cover pump and ensure solid covers are free of standing water
☐ Label and store all small parts and equipment in a dry, protected space
☐ Make note of any repairs needed before spring
